As I said before, when you think of dog clothing, you often think of smaller dogs. So what do you do when you are trying to find some practical clothing, such as a dog sweater, for a larger dog? You may notice that some more mainstream pet stores won't carry pet clothing at all, let alone large dog sweaters. This is where the miracle of the modern age, the internet, comes into play. These days everyone has a direct line to all of the pet stores in the world and it's right there on their computer desk. You will find that searching online for large dog sweaters is much easier than attempting to purchase one at your local pet store.
That's great, now you know that what you are searching for, some practical clothing for your dog, is just a click away but where do you start looking, after all, the world wide web is a rather large place. There are two methodologies that you could try when you are pet cloths shopping. The first is to search an online retail giant like Amazon. The second is to use a search engine like Google to find smaller online pet stores. Neither one of these methods is better than the other. They are merely two different ways that you can go about finding what you want. Still a bit unsure as to what I mean? Below you will find the results of my searches as I attempted to find a large dog sweater for my Golden Retriever “Belle”.
What I found while searching Amazon.com for large dog sweaters:
- The fleece will fit dogs that are between 50 and 65 pounds.
- This item has 4 stars and was reviewed by 6 customers. ( 2 giving it 5 stars, 3 giving it 4 stars and 2 giving it 3 stars).
- I know that the large dog fleece weighs 12 ounces.
- I know exactly what the item looks like as I can see several pictures of it right on the site.
- I know that the fleece only costs $12.99 and that I can get free shipping.
This is what you can expect when searching for large dog sweaters on Amazon.com.
What I found while Searching Google for large dog sweaters:
I should start by saying that I didn't use Google's web search but instead I clicked on the shopping link at the top of their homepage so that only online retailers would show up in the search results.
There were several results for large dog sweaters. Literally, a ton of online retailers all selling pet clothing, over 54,000 listings. In order to break it down I remove all retailers without a customer rating, this will help me to avoid online shops that are less than reputable. I then begin to organize them by price. You will never guess what the first listing was for... A dog sweater on Amazon.com. I guess even Google likes the mega stores. Aside from Amazon, there were quite a few very nice shops that were selling cute, not ridiculously cute, pet clothing at very reasonable prices.
What it boils down to is simply preference. Which ever one of these methods you prefer.
Another tip when you are shopping for dog cloths online is that it helps to be specific. For example what type of dog sweater are you looking for? Are you looking for cheap dog sweaters, designer dog sweaters, extra large dog sweaters, dog knit sweaters, hand knit dog sweaters, sports dog sweaters or black dog sweaters? Those are just a few examples. It will go much faster if you know exactly what you are looking for, however, you can “window shop” too.
